The biggest disadvantage of Schottky diodes is that the reverse bias voltage is low and the reverse leakage current is too large. For example, the Schottky diodes made of silicon and metal have a maximum reverse bias voltage rating of only 50V, and the reverse leakage current is a positive temperature characteristic, which is easy to rapidly increase with the temperature rise. In practical design, attention should be paid to the hidden problem of thermal runaway. In order to avoid the above problems, the reverse bias voltage of Schottky diodes in actual use will be much smaller than its rated value. However, the technology of Schottky diodes has also been improved, and the rated value of reverse bias voltage can be up to 200V.
